Three Upcoming Virtual Events Hosted by the NJCPA

Coping with the COVID-19 Pandemic

This 50-minute webcast directed by licensed therapist Julie Killion will provide members with practical solutions to address mental health challenges and concerns associated with the pandemic. It is scheduled to take place on January 21, 2021 and is free for NJCPA members.

Economic and Capital Markets Update

Led by AllianceBernstein senior portfolio manager Paul Robertson, this 50-minute session will cover global economy challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic and touch on other topics such as election outcome repercussions. It is scheduled for February 18, 2021.

IssuesWatch Live: New Jersey Budget

Also free for members, this 75-minute session will feature a panel of public policy experts who will break down aspects of Governor Phil Murphy's proposed budget. NJCPA vice president of government relations Jeffrey Kaszerman will lead the session, which takes place on March 11, 2021.

NJCPA Releases an Updated Disaster Recovery Guide

The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) is a professional organization that brings together more than 14,000 CPAs working in government, public practice, and education as well as business. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, NJCPA released an updated Disaster Recovery Guide for New Jersey businesses and residents. The guide, which is updated every year, outlines measures to take to recover from a natural disaster.

Key details include how to replace lost documents such as passports and credit cards as well as contact information for state, federal, and insurance companies. According to Ralph Albert Thomas, an NJCPA executive director, disasters are easier to handle if those affected receive the required support from colleagues, CPAs, and the community. The updated guide also includes information about how to prevent disaster-related fraud during the coronavirus pandemic.

NJCPA Four-Year Accounting Scholarships



With an accounting background, Brain Donahue, CPA, has industry experience that spans more than three decades. To stay up to date as a CPA, Brain Donahue also maintains membership with the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants.

The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) is the largest professional body that brings together more than 14,000 Garden State CPAs and aspiring CPAs. NJCPA membership consists of CPA professionals in government, business, public practice, and education.

NJCPA has various scholarship programs including the NJCPA four-year scholarships worth $7,000 each, which are given to New Jersey high school seniors intending to join college to pursue a major in accounting or high school seniors planning to pursue a concentration in accounting of not less than 24 accounting credits. The criteria for awarding these scholarships depends on academic performance, an essay interview, standardized test scores, and a personal interview.

To be eligible, applicants must have attained a cumulative GPA score of 3.5 or above, minimum composite ACT score of 26, or a total SAT score of 1260. Applications should be from a US citizen or a permanent resident in New Jersey. Applications should be accompanied by a letter of intent, signed by the student and their parents or legal guardians.
